Newsletter 24.02.17

Dear Parents,

We continue learning about The 3 Little Pigs in class this week. Activities related to our topic have become more hands-on, interactive and extra fun!

Funky Finger

To further develop their fine motor skills and link this activity to our topic, we added straws for the children to use and create arrangements. They used both sticks, straws and blue tac to 'build' different shapes and houses. Teachers encouraged the children to talk about what they have made and use the vocabulary we have been learning in class.

Interactive Whiteboard

Children took part in helping the 3 little pigs build their houses using the IWB. Children have shown good control of the IWB pen in dragging materials to the houses. Apart from developing their ICT skills, children have also been showing outstanding knowledge of the story sequence as they recite familiar phrases from the story.

Understanding the World (UTW)

We all believed how brilliant the 3 little pigs were in building 3 different houses but we wanted to know which material makes the sturdiest and strongest house. Is it the straw? Is it the sticks? Or the bricks? So with our imagination and a hair blower (disguised as the big bad hungry wolf) we set off for an experiment! We all agreed that the bricks surely make a strongest house that no wolf can ever blow down.

Superheroes Bootcamp at BVIS

It was an amazing experience for the children in F1 to ride the bus and travel all the way to BVIS and take part in a bootcamp! Childen all enjoyed running around a grassy field, engaging in different activities set up for them and most of all meeting other children their age!

REMINDERS:

* Class Photograph schedule will be on Tuesday 28.02. Kindly bring your children to school on time.

Have a lovely weekend!

Ms Grace, Ms Crislet and the F1 Team

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf, big bad wolf?
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? La, la, la, la!

Our F1 little piggies have been very busy building houses in our very own construction site. With bricks, trucks, diggers and dumpers, they have been really working hard to make their house as strong as possible so the big bad wolf won't be able to blow it down!

In our Funky Fingers table, we have been building our own models and shapes using tongue depressors and blu tack.

This week, we have also introduced different vocabulary words by playing BINGO. The children looked for a hod, wheelbarrow, door, house, pig, wolf, bricks, nails, hammer, ladder and truck.

For our workshop activities this week, we have made the 3 little pigs' houses by sticking sticks and straws and stamping. We have also made our own paintings of the 3 little pigs and the children came up with brilliant paintings!

In our malleable area, we have been completing the pig and the wolf's faces with the playdough. We have also been rolling dough into straw bales and houses.

All children have actively participated this week in an array of activities and we are very pleased with them! Well done children!

BIS HCMC Parent Satisfaction Survey 2017- Reminder

Dear Parents,

Thank you to those parents who have already completed the annual Parent Satisfaction Survey.  We are very pleased that to-date, one third of our parents have responded.   We are very keen to receive feedback from all our parents.

There are only 6 days before the survey closes.  If you have not done so already, we encourage you to take the time to fill out the 15-minute survey which is available in 18 languages.  All responses will be anonymous and each family needs to respond only once on behalf of all your children.

Your feedback is essential in creating the best learning environment for your child, as your responses will inform us on how we can continue to improve your child’s overall learning experience. The more parents we hear from, the more confident we can be that our action plans respond to your views.

Please click on the LINK to access the survey.

Thank you again for your continued support and feedback. We look forward to hearing your responses.

Kind regards,

Tim Deyes
Principal

Newsletter 10.02.17

Dear Parents,

We hope you all have had a wonderful Tet holiday with your families and are now ready for another term at school. This week we have started introducing a new story focus - The Three Little Pigs. We have introduced the story to them through a variety of ways. During story time and library, we showed them photos of the characters and objects in the story and encouraged the children to make a guess on what our focus will be. Some of them showed a good awareness of the story and made a correct guess of the book. Please follow the link to learn the story - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLR2pLUsl-Y

You may also want to recite the rhyme below with your children:

To market, to market to buy a fat pig
Home again, home again, jiggety jig
To market, to market to but a fat hog
Home again, home again jiggety jog
To market, to market to buy a plum bun
Home again, home again, market is done!

At the Funky Finger table, children were given some sticks (tongue depressor) and blue tac and were encouraged to create their own arrangement. It was a delight to see how creative and imaginative the children could be with only a few materials on hand. We have also been learning about shapes and Ms Clarissa led a discussion about them and an IWB game about sorting and finding various shapes.

This week, we are very lucky to celebrate Nana's birthday in class. She was a picture of a very jolly girl on her special day! Happy Birthday Nana!

Have a lovely weekend!

Ms Grace, Ms Crislet and the F1 Team
